The Wooloweyah Sessions & the Old Kirk Concerts are a new initiative to bring the joy of live music to Yamba.
They are based on the “house concert” concept that is now taking off in Australia after much success in the USA & the UK. As the house I live in is too small, I chose
to arrange it in small intimate venues instead. Slightly greater audience numbers also makes it more financially viable for the various performers coming from afar.
Each concert starts with a local performer performing a 20 - 30 minute set followed by
a quick 15 mins interval before a 50 minute - 1 hour concert by a visiting musician(s).
The whole event is planned to last from 7pm to 9pm so people can still get home early as it is a weeknight. There are also times when there are no local support acts and the visiting artists do the whole concert.
The musicians involved will be presenting their own original music. There will be some amplification but at acoustic listening levels.
Please note the word “concert” – these are musical events rather than parties where the emphasis is on listening to the music instead of catching up with friends.
The first one in 2010 was booked out two days prior and the amount of interest from the
Yamba community has ensured that these concerts will continue on a semi-regular basis usually on a Wednesday night.
Both venues have seats but please bring a cushion to be more comfortable & when
the weather gets cooler a jumper to be on the safe side plus whatever you feel you need to enjoy this event.
The ticket cost was set at $15 in 2010 and still remains the same. This $15 covers the cost of the venue, various running expenses and the rest goes to the performers. These Concerts are limited to 50 ticketholders only. Even in a small
town like Yamba they sell out fast so if you are considering coming then it is vital
a seat in advance.
Children are welcome and are free up to 12 years of age.
Teenagers between 12 & 16 are $10 at the door.
